Despite Papa John's claim of "better ingredients, better pizza, and epic, one-topping stuffed crust," Black Lives Matter activists do not view them as their pizza establishment of choice. We sat down with a 22-year old white BLM activist, Jason, to learn why Papa John's is unappealing to him.
"I just have too much respect for myself and for African Americans to eat that stuff. Like, I'd rather go hungry than put another dime in the pocket of that racist, John Schnatter. I just wish I could go back in time to Thursday night dinners when my mom would pick up Papa John's on her way home from work and, like, refuse to eat that crap. It disgusts me that she still supports that business after what was said on a sensitivity training conference call in July of 2018. I've been a vocal activist ever since that time. It's the least I can do. If I have to give up Papa John's one-topping stuffed crust pizza in order to show my white privilege, then that's what I'm going to do."
